Places to visit

Palace of the Inquisition and Historical Museum:
This palace was years ago the Court of Sano Office used to try crimes against the Christian faith.

Today it is a museum where you can visit what once were in jails and torture chambers, besides finding historical documents that require the site's history.

Castillo San Felipe de Barajas:
It is a military fortress built by the Spaniards during the colonial era to prevent the invasion of the city, either by land or by the Caribbean Sea, it is considered one of the seven wonders of Colombia.

Plaza de los Coches:

The collection exhibited there in Goldsmith composed 538 pieces, 61 in Ceramic, Stone 12, 48 shells and bone 6, referring to the artistic work of communities that formed the pre-Columbian culture.

Naval Museum:

Rosario Islands:
This nature reserve is a marine paradise of corals and reef inhabited by a multitude of species and mangrove harboring wildlife. The forms an archipelago of 27 islands, some so small they only have a house.

Baru Island:
This is one of the tourist destinations of sun and beach preferred by tourists.

Gastronomy
The Cartagena kitchen has a popular origin, which is grounded in chips, rice, soups and stews; but it is also a kitchen that takes elements from other parts of the world, such as meats cooked over low heat, with vegetables, which are based delightful, bright and strong flavors sauces.

One of the traditions of Cartagena cuisine is known as the rice with meat tabaquito. These are small pieces of salt and cooked meat mixed with rice to create a very nice plate of tasty deep textures and aromas.

Rice, in the Caribbean tradition with major, are present as an accompaniment to daily and dishes with black-eyed beans, ripe banana, carrot, squash or onions.

The traditional and most famous in the region are the stews and soups mote of cheese, which is a traditional soup made with yam and chunks of cheese, served with roasted eggplant and preserved in olive oil.

 

The juices are made with tropical fruits like papaya and corozo which are symbols of the season. But you can also find juices watermelon, mango, tamarind, carambola, cherry and plum Creole, among others.
