The Amazon is one of those places that are always printed in memory. Among the indelible images are the dimensions of the Amazon river, the stream of life, the crossing of the smaller rivers and above all the life that originates in the banks.
Leticia is on one of the banks of the river in the heart of the planet's lush forest on an imaginary line that divides the Amazon from three countries: Colombia, Brazil and Peru. It was founded in 1867 under the name of San Antonio and belonged to Peru until 1922; when it was delivered to Colombia adopted the name Leticia and became the entrance to the "Green Lung". The expeditions on the way to the discovery of the jungle, to Manaus in Brazil and Iquitos in Peru out of Leticia.
The Amazon is the second longest river in the world with 6,275 kilometers. This spring receives water from hundreds of rivers from the Peruvian Andes, north of Arequipa.
Rain is common in the Amazon, and the rainy season runs from February to April; July and August are the driest months. The waters reach their highest point since February to early June, when is the best time for activities like bird watching, fishing for piranha and Victoria Regia - a huge aquatic plant with large purple flowers framed by external white petals and floating leaves that can reach two meters in diameter-. The river is at its lowest level August to November when many beaches are formed on the river banks where turtles lay their eggs.
You can easily see the pink dolphin, the black caiman, armadillos, tapir, manatee, squirrels, otters, turtles turtle jabuti- the world's largest freshwater as well as numerous species of birds, including macaws and toucans.
Many indigenous communities living in the area including the Huitotos, Yagua and Ticunas, who retain their culture and traditions, passed down from generation to generation their knowledge of the use of medicinal and magical plants, ceremonies and survival skills in the jungle.
