Our Colombian geography is characterized by its nature, this provides a comprehensive system of protected areas comprising 10% of the country, among which there are 37 national parks, 12 wildlife sanctuaries, 2 natural reserves, a unique area parks covering 11 million hectares of beautiful scenery, varied climates and soils and a great diversity of flora and fauna, with more than 230 private nature reserves.

 

Colombia ranks first in amphibians, butterflies and flower production and second in biodiversity in the world, with a range of 1,865 bird species.

 

In addition to the geographic and strategic location of our country, the presence of high mountains, vast savannas and rainforests, make Colombia has a unique water potential.

 

One of the peculiarities of Colombia is that, between June and November of each year, becomes foster home to hundreds of species of birds, whales and sea turtles that visit the Colombian Pacific Coast reproductive, food industry and as a resting during their migration route.

 

The geographical and climatic diversity of Colombia is very extensive, this means having the greatest biodiversity. It covers only 0.8% of the surface of the Earth, however, represents 10% of known endemic species of the world and the largest variety of bird species. Colombia has the highest coastal mountain range in the world, the snowy peaks of Los Nevados in the coffee zone and El Cocuy in Santander and the vast plains of Los Llanos extend east to Venezuela. The great Amazon River and rainforest are largely unexplored in Colombia and deserts can be found in the south of the Tatacoa and also in La Guajira the northernmost point on the continent.

 

The mighty Pacific Ocean washes the sands of the coast and the Black Forest with its exceptionally rich flora and its fauna. It extends from Panama to the border with Ecuador and where the greatest rainfall amounts recorded in the world, this is also the place where humpback whales come to breed and turtles to lay their eggs.

 

The mighty Magdalena River flows through the center of the country and is home to an abundance of wildlife including the rare hippo, Green and lush highlands of Boyacá, Santander and the Coffee are ideal for hiking and bird watching, and explore the variety of flowers and plants such as orchid and palm wax; protected species and national emblem that develop in the cloud forest. Much of this stunning nature is protected within the network of 58 national parks combined with culture and history provides a perfect experience of this spectacular country.
