Santa Marta, founded on July 29, 1525 by the Spanish conquistador Rodrigo de Bastidas was the first city in Colombia and throughout South America and became the starting point for the conquest of the new world.

The small colonial area is of great historical importance due to the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, where Simon Bolivar died on December 17, 1830. The prime location of the city, between the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, has the highest peaks of the country (5.775m) and a huge variety of flora and fauna. The Tayrona National Park, rich in culture and history, makes this a very attractive destination
